Time Commitment
10-15 hours per week (4 month minimum)
Duties
•Help find homes for upcoming arrivals and newly-arrived families
•Cultivate relationships with new landlords/property managers
•Travel to site visits and meetings at apartment complexes
•Help with apartment set ups and ensure each home has required items
•Coordinate and supervise housing set-up volunteers
•Provide a housing orientation for newly arrived refugee clients and ensure they know how to make rent payments, use appliances and make maintenance requests
•Some heavy lifting and driving a moving truck during housing set-ups required
Skills and Qualifications
- Enrollment in an institution of higher education as a full or part-time student
- Experienced with administration, record keeping, and logistics
- Effective in accomplishing tasks independently - with some guidance
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Willing to support & complete fieldwork
- Familiar with housing in the Denver metro area
- Experienced in outreach & community facing communication
- Able to develop content and design for outreach materials to share with leasing agents
- Will have a reliable car, driver's license, proof of insurance (mileage will be reimbursed)
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and willing to wear a mask while interacting with clients and the public
Learning Objectives:
The Housing and Logistics intern will gain experience navigating the housing market in Denver for the refugee population. They will acquire detailed knowledge about the reception and placement period for newly arrived refugees, funds allocated to refugees, and pubic benefits available for refugees and asylees. They will gain experience advocating for refugees while networking with apartment complexes, landlords, and property managers who will house Denver's newest refugee population.

A First Friend mentor supports newly arrived Afghan clients. The program is designed to connect Dari/Farsi and Pashto speakers from the community to Afghan clients.
H.O.M.E. Program Team
The HOME Program pairs community, civic, and/or faith-based groups directly with refugee families resettled by the IRC in Denver. In collaboration with the IRC, HOME teams assist the Denver team to complete home set-ups, provide targeted financial assistance and offer ongoing mentorship to a refugee family for six months.
Volunteer Coordination Assistant
This volunteer position will support the volunteer and donations team with the onboarding of new volunteers and interns and with the ongoing maintenance of volunteer and intern programs at the IRC in Denver. This role is vital in supporting the IRC's ability to serve newly-arrived refugee families and other vulnerable immigrant groups.
